DEFENSIVE DRIVING
A Driving Safety Course (DSC) option is available to those who are eligible. If all terms required by the court are successfully met, the case will be dismissed. If any requirements are not met and you cannot provide a satisfactory reason why at a hearing before a Judge, you will be found guilty and a conviction reported to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
REQUIREMENTS
- You (the driver) cannot have a commercial driver license (even if the violation happened while in your personal vehicle)
- If you are a juvenile(under 17 YOA), you cannot sign up on your own but must come to court first
- You must have current, valid proof of insurance
- You must currently have a Texas driver’s license
ELIGABLE VIOLATIONS
In order to take a driving safety course, a defendant must first make an appearance at the court office or before the Judge, sign an agreement and pay the court cost. If a ticket is dismissed under this provision, it will not appear as a conviction on the driving record and according to state law, should not affect insurance premiums. To determine eligibility, a driving safety course must not have been taken 12 months before the date of the citation. Please call the Oyster Creek Municipal Court if you have any question.
If eligibility is determined, the defendant must appear at the court office or before the Judge to:
- Enter a plea of no contest or guilty
- Pay applicable state court costs and administrative fees.
- Present a valid Texas driver's license
- Present valid insurance with the defendant's name on the policy
